The Oldenburg Academy boys welcomed Triton Central to their gym Saturday, Feb. 8, for their Senior Day, defeating the Tigers 53-27. This was the final boys’ varsity contest in Oldenburg’s current gym, as next season they will move across campus to the new Hillenbrand Family FeldHaus, according to athletic director Patrick Kolks.
The Twisters proved to be too much for the Tigers, as the home team held the Tigers’ shooting in check, only allowing them to make 28% of their shots. After the first quarter, the Twisters saw a 19-12 lead, the narrowest margin for the Tigers. Going into halftime, the Twisters led 31-14, widening the lead to 43-19 after the third quarter.
The Twisters shot 42% from the field and 33% from long range. They won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Tigers 29-19. The Twisters were led in scoring by senior Jake Johnson with 17. Next in line was junior Wil Freeland.
Before the game, the Twisters honored four basketball seniors: Johnson, Michael Hoff, Dempsy Bohman and Zak Wegman; and two senior cheerleaders: Bella Monroe and Sam Mahoney.
The boys will travel to Christian Academy Saturday, Feb. 15, to take on the 11-7 Warriors. JV tip-off is at 6 p.m., with the varsity matchup to follow.
