Wrestlers get first wins
Batesville wrestling picked up its first team wins of the season at Saturday’s Rushville 5-way tournament. Despite giving up forfeits again, BHS went 2-2 on the day. Senior JT Linkel won the 145-pound class with a 4-0 effort (all pins). Each of his Bulldog teammates won at least one match.
The Dogs defeated Connersville 42-30 and Greensburg 45-30, while falling to Rushville 51-30 and invitational champ Centerville 64-12.
Alex Murphy (113), Josh Mobley (160) and Aaron Norman (195) were 3-1 at the meet. Murphy won by injury default, forfeit and pin. Mobley had 2 pins and won in overtime 6-1. Norman earned 2 pins and a forfeit.
Tyler Schaeffer (132) had a pin and forfeit, as did Jonathan Schrank (138), Jy’lil Chappel (182) and Brandon Manning (285). Axel Garcia (170) won by decision and claimed a forfeit. Caleb Bischoff-Niese (120) won 13-11.
With his 4th pin and 66th career fall, Linkel ties Mike Daily for 2nd all-time at BHS in that category.
Batesville (2-9) hosts Franklin County Dec. 17.
OA swimmers split
Oldenburg Academy’s girls swim team defeated Switzerland County and South Ripley Thursday, 124-81-81.
The Twister boys weren’t as fortunate, falling to Switz 106-76.

Tigers get Lady Twisters
Hagerstown got the better of Oldenburg in a varsity girls matinee at OA Saturday afternoon, 41-30.
OA (2-9) hosts 9-1 Greensburg Dec. 17.
The Batesville freshman boys basketball team (2-3) fell to East Central 44-24. Nate Vankirk led the Bulldogs with 8 points, followed by Lyle Oesterling with 4.
SLS red earns win
The St. Louis 5th-grade boys red team won 16-9 over St. Mary’s Aurora Thursday.
David Koch led the Cardinals with 7 points. Ayden Meyer netted 4 points. Cayden Lieland scored 3 and Owen Hermesch 2.
Mixed results for BMS
Batesville Middle School’s Bulldogs went one up, one down against Sunman-Dearborn Dec. 12. 7th grade improved to 9-1 with a 43-17 victory, while 8th grade is 6-4 following a 35-31 loss.
“We were very tough on defense, that limited the opponent on offense,” said grade 7 coach Garrett Burkhart.
Scoring were Carson Laker (11), Jacob Stenger (8), Will Jaisle (5), Cade Kaiser (4), Grant Goldsmith (3), Javier Jimenez (3), Mason Jones (3), Gage Pohlman (2), Keegan Walke (2) and Jake Chapman (2).
Conner Drake scored his team-high 13 points in the first half of the BMS 8th game, helping the Bulldogs to a 20-15 halftime lead. Jack Grunkemeyer added 7 in the contest, followed by Sam Johnson’s 4, Chris Lewis’ 3, Carter Bohman’s 2 and Brendan Heiser’s deuce.
“It was close all night, but ultimately we could not capitalize on enough opportunities late in the game,” coach Tyler Burcham remarked.
