U of L to host NCAA regional
The University of Louisville baseball team, carrying a couple of names close to the hearts of Batesville fans, will host an NCAA regional this weekend and start May 31 against the Illinois-Chicago Flames.
The Cardinals are 43-15 and went 21-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. BHS grads Zach Britton and Bryan Hoeing have played big roles in the team's success.
Britton, a sophomore catcher, is batting .286 with 7 doubles and 5 home runs. He's driven in 26 runs and is slugging .487. The senior Hoeing has tossed 53.2 innings and owns a 3-3 record with 1 save. His ERA is 2.85 with 61 strikeouts against just 14 walks. Opposing hitters are compiling a mere .229 average off Hoeing.
Should they advance, the College World Series begins in mid-June.
