Batesville Bats tryouts are July 21

The 2020 Batesville Bats will be holding tryouts Sunday, July 21 at the Plex, 671 Pohlman Street. The 12-under tryouts are at 5 p.m.; the 14-under group will have their turn on field 1 from 7-8:30 p.m.

To be eligible, no player can turn the older age before May 1. Please contact Paul Drake (502-523-2224) or Brandon Blessing (812-212-1007) to RSVP a spot for the tryout or to arrange a private tryout session.

The program was established four years ago, boasts three state championships, is very affordable to local southeastern Indiana youth and for the first time will proudly offer teams at all age levels (8u-14u) in 2020.

Ripley Chamber hosting golf scramble

The Ripley County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 19th annual golf scramble Aug. 2 at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club. Registration begins 10:30 a.m. with a noon start.

Fees are $400 per team or $100 per individual. This includes green fees, cart, driving range, box lunch, prizes and awards. A number of sponsorships are available for purchase.

Walsman signs to play in Iceland

Former Cincinnati Christian University standout and Batesville Bulldog (Class of 2015) Blake Walsman has signed to play basketball professionally for Club Hurunamenn, located near Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.

Walsman stated, "This was a dream of mine since as long as I can remember, but I never thought it would actually become a reality. I am beyond blessed and grateful for this opportunity. I am ready to get to work and contribute in any way I can for my team."

Walsman, an NAIA All-American, played four seasons at CCU. While there, he became the all-time leading scorer with a total of 2,236 points, the all-time leading rebounder with a total of 1,431, and had the most double-doubles with 71.
