Lady Bulldogs eke out dual wins
Batesville's girls golf team edged host Columbus East Monday, 207-209, at Otter Creek Golf Course behind freshman Emma Weiler's medalist effort of 39. Sarah Ronnebaum carded 50, Tori Harpring 56, Madelyn Pohlman 62 and Chloe Murphy 63.
Over the weekend, East finished ahead of the 'Dogs at the Greensburg Invitational, won by Greenfield-Central with 360. Batesville was 7th with a 404, trailing Franklin County (364), Columbus (378), Hagerstown (398), Indian Creek (398) and Greensburg (401). Triton Central had 408, Shelbyville 429, Mooresville 432, Jennings county 440, North Decatur 444, Franklin Central 448 and Hagerstown B-team 462. Rushville and Oldenburg Academy posted incomplete scores with a scarcity of golfers.
Despite Weiler shooting a career-best 73, GCHS' Caroline Gibson had tourney honors with a 2-over 72. Gracie Graf (88) and Maggie Brack (89) paced Franklin Co.
"Emma played solid golf all day and had a great score, she just ran into a girl that had a great day and shot one stroke better," said BHS coach Tom Meyer.
Batesville repeated its 207 Tuesday, defeating Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference foe Connersville by one stroke at Willowbrook Golf Course. Weiler was medalist with an excellent 1-under par 35.
BHS (2-0) welcomes OA and Franklin County to Hillcrest Aug. 16.
