The AquaTrojans competed against 22 other teams March 13-15.

East Central AquaTrojans Well Represented at the South Eastern Indiana Swimming Championships

The East Central AquaTrojans were represented by 30 swimmers ages 9-19 at the South Eastern Indiana Swimming Divisionals March 13-15 at Franklin Community High School. The Trojans competed against 22 other swim teams from the area. Head Coach Brandon Loveless states, “Our swimmers showed up to compete and many of our swimmers placed and attained personal best times in all their events.”

Among those who to swim in the 10 and under group were Kayla Goodwin (2nd 200IM, 4th 50 back, 7th 50 breast, 2nd 100 back, 8th 50 free and 4th 100 breast), Sierra Hall (5th 100 fly, 9th 50 back, 5th 100 back, 7th 50 fly), Addison McGuire (18th 50 breast) and Joan Strotman (11th 200 free, 15th 50 back, 18th 100 free, 10th 100 back). The 10 and under 200 free relay team comprised of Jada Dole, Strotman, Hall and Goodwin finished 7th overall. The 10 and under 200 medley relay team comprised of Goodwin, Strotman, Hall and Dole finished 8th overall. “I am very proud of these girls and can’t wait to see what the summer season brings for them!” states Loveless.

The 11 and over group had quite a few days of swimming as well. “These kids work extremely hard at practice and it shows when they come to compete,” says Loveless. This group also had many personal bests and top 16 finishes. Among them were Skyler Cavins (3rd 100 fly, 3rd 200 breast, 4th 100 back and 4th 100 breast), Kaden Cummins (10th 500 free, 5th 1650 free, 14th 50 free, 14th 200 free, 16th 100 back and 13th 100 free), Kyle Goodwin (1st 500 free), Madison Goodwin (12th 500 free, 4th 50 back, 11th 50 free, 15th 50 breast, 13th 100 back and 12th 100 breast), Emily Hafertepen (14th 100 fly, 1st 200 breast, 15th 200 IM, 2nd 200 breast), Kyra Hall (3rd 50 free, 2nd 200 free, 1st 200 IM, 3rd 100 free and 3rd 100 breast), Tara Hall (5th 100 fly, 4th 200 back, 2nd 100 back and 10th 100 breast), Ayden Ketchem ( 2nd 50 free, 12th 200 free, 11th 100 back, 4th 100 free and 9th 100 breast), Raymond Krider (10th 500 free, 13th 100 fly and 3rd 200 back), Aubree Popen (8th 50 back, 7th 50 free, 5th 100 free and 1st 50 fly), Reagan Reany (10th 500 free), Riley Reany (6th 200IM, 2nd 50 back, 3rd 50 free, 7th 200 free, 4th 100 back and 10th 100 free), Mackenzie Schantz (16th 500 free, 6th 100 fly, 1st 200 fly), Andrew Strotman (15th 200 back, 13th 50 breast, 10th 100 back and 14th 100 breast), Frank Strotman (7th 100 breast and 10th 100 breast), Henry Strotman (12th 50 free, 11th 200 breast, 10th 100 back, 15th 100 free, 12th 100 breast), Kathleen Strotman (14th 200 breast and 12th 100 breast) and Nicholas Weber ( 2nd 100 fly, 3rd 200 IM and 2nd 100 breast).

The 11 and 12 Girls 200 yard free relay comprised of Popen, Alvarez, Goodwin and Reany took 3rd, and 11 and 12 Girls 200 yard medley relay comprised of Reany, Brown, Popen and Goodwin also took 3rd place. The 11 and 12 Boys 200 free relay comprised of Strotman, B. Stephenson, Murray and Goodwin placed 1st overall. The 13 and 14 Girls 200 free relay comprised of Reany, Hafertepen, Shumate and Hall took 8th and took 5th in the 200 medley relay. The Boys 13 and 14 200 medley relay comprised of Cummins, Ketchem, Strotman and A. Stephenson took 4th place. The 15-18 200 Free Relay took 4th place overall.

Out of the 31 swimmers representing EC, 7 swimmers (Kaden Cummins, Kyle Goodwin, Ayden Ketchem, Aubree Popen, Brady Stephenson and Henry Strotman) have obtained Age Group State Cuts and six swimmers (Skyler Cavins, Kyra Hall, Jackson Ketcham, Raymond Krider, Jackson Ketcham, Mackenzie Schantz and Nicholas Weber) have obtained their Senior State Cuts. Kyra Hall, Jackson Ketcham and Nicholas Weber also have their Future’s Cuts. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, these swimmers did not have a chance to compete at the state level. “While the kids do understand it is for the safety of all, they are still highly disappointed,” says Loveless. He adds, “They work hard all season for these times so I understand their disappointment.”

The AquaTrojans Season will pick back up after a short break April 27. New registration will take place Tuesday, April 21, and Thursday, April 23, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. For more information, persons can contact Loveless at
