Two first-half goals proved to be enough for the Batesville Bulldog boys soccer team, as they knocked off the visiting Milan Indians Aug. 17 by a 2-0 count.

With 5:03 left in the first half, defender Brandon Allgeier started play to Ian Powers, who found JJ Kuisel on a through ball; the latter dribbled left around the keeper and tapped the ball in. A minute later, Calvin Sherwood played a ball wide left to wing Joey Gutzwiller, who sent it to Powers for a nicely-timed header finish.

Keeper Ethan Brewer helped preserve the shutout. "Our defense held up nicely to deny Milan a chance of breaking up the shutout," said coach Kyle Hunteman.

Batesville (1-0) visits Union County Aug. 20.
