Excellent article entitled "Going straight" in the July 2 issue. Lots of information! It was well thought out and complete.
Years ago I wondered why we in Ripley County were not doing what a number of other counties were doing. Community corrections have got to be a part of the court services.
Because of my experience with the courts (as an attorney), I have witnessed firsthand why just locking up drug abusers does not solve the problem. Your article reports that we have a comprehensive array of services that are used and funded, not just there to look at and cost us money.
The Ripley County Court Services as reported in the newspaper is a marvel and it is so much more. It is in keeping with what I believe to be the responsibility of judges – the health, welfare and safety of the people of their county.
