The Batesville Beautification League would like to thank citizens, nonprofits and businesses in Batesville and the surrounding areas for supporting us this year.
The Hillenbrand Foundation has been generous. We also are grateful to the Batesville Parks Department that waters our flowers and Street Department that hangs our Christmas wreaths, Bohman Tree Farm that donates greenery for us to put around our Christmas boxes, Batesville High School Art Department that repainted Christmas boxes for us, those who stopped to make positive comments as we were working, the Hill-Rom group that helped with spring and fall cleanups and those who purchased raffle tickets or donated money. And a special thanks to The Herald-Tribune for publishing our meeting dates and other activities.
We have spring and fall cleanups. All members who are available help with this big project downtown and at the park. The Olde Garden Shack plants our 80 hanging baskets, and we purchase flowers from them. The members plant the flowers in the pots and in the ground. It is our responsibility to feed, spray for beetles, deadhead and weed in our designated areas. We work from March or April until January or February trying to keep our community beautiful.
Many hands make light work. At the present time we have 25 active members, and are always in need of more hands, men or women. If anyone is interested in joining our group, call our president, Clara Goble, at 812-934-3723.
This year’s raffle winners were Richard Wagner, $500; Debbie Blank, $100; and Charlie Morton, $100, area code 703, who has not returned my phone calls.
