Franklin County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the scene of an accident Friday, March 20, at 5:30 a.m. on Oxford Pike near Hetrick Road in the county’s far northeast corner north of Mixersville. The initial investigation found a 2014 Kia Soul was eastbound on Oxford Pike. The driver failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to go off of the road and strike a tree. The impact caused it to catch fire, according to an FCSD news release.
The driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was severely burned and could not be immediately identified. The remains were taken to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, Cincinnati, for autopsy and further investigation.
Deputies were assisted by the College Corner Volunteer Fire Department, Drewersburg EMS 1 and Franklin County coroner. The accident is still under investigation.
