Batesville Police Department officers and Batesville Fire and EMS responded to the 400 block of North Huntersville Road for a single-vehicle motorcycle accident Wednesday, Aug. 7, at about 6:28 p.m., according to BPD Chief Stan Holt.
The initial investigation by Cpl. Ryan Metcalf revealed Samuel Eckstein, 43, Batesville, was driving a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Huntersville Road. While negotiating a left turn, Eckstein’s motorcycle ran off of the road's right side, slid through the grass, then collided with a large utility pole. Eckstein was thrown from the motorcycle as a result of the collision and was not wearing a helmet.
He was treated by Batesville EMS and flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further treatment. Eckstein’s injuries were determined to be serious, but nonlife-threatening.
Metcalf also was assisted at the scene by Patrolman Stephen Sieverding.
