Batesville Police Department officers are investigating a shootout involving multiples suspects that occurred in the LaRosa’s Pizza parking lot late Wednesday night, Oct. 2, according to Chief Stan Holt.

Around 10:40 p.m. the dispatch center received a 911 call reporting several gunshots being fired. BPD officers arrived on the scene in about three minutes and discovered all suspects had already fled.

According to witnesses, two Hispanic males pulled into the LaRosa’s parking lot in a black Buick passenger car with tinted windows. While that vehicle was driving through, two white males came walking from the area of Skyline Chili. A shootout then ensued between the subjects on foot and the individuals in the Buick. The witnesses reported that approximately 20 shots were fired before all suspects fled the scene.

The vehicle was last seen southbound on Bedel Boulevard headed toward State Road 46. The two suspects on foot ran in the direction of the Quality Inn. They were described as white males in their 20s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with medium builds. One was described as wearing black shorts and a black shirt, while the other was described as wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a white ball cap.

The Buick’s occupants were only described as Hispanic males.

The investigating officers determined that several vehicles parked in the area were struck by bullets, including a semi-trailer hauling propane tanks. Officers also discovered that a window on the Quality Inn was shot out.

More than a dozen officers from BPD, Ripley County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police were on the scene for several hours processing evidence and gathering information from witnesses. RCSO responded with a drone equipped with thermal imaging. ISP also deployed its tracking K-9.

This incident is being investigated by BPD. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department at 812-934-3131.
