Franklin County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to two accidents Sunday, Sept. 8.
At 1:49 a.m., they were called to Stipps Hill Road at its intersection with Davison Road and found a 1999 Yamaha YZF motorcycle off of the road’s south side and in a ditch.
Deputies determined that Devin Bennington, 24, Laurel, was operating the motorcycle eastbound on Stipps Hill Road. He lost control, causing it to lay over onto its side before traveling off of the road. Bennington was ejected from the motorcycle.
The driver was flown by Stat Flight medical helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, for treatment of multiple injuries. Bennington was not wearing a helmet.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Laurel and Clarksburg volunteer fire departments, Laurel EMS 3 and Responder 24.
At 8:07 p.m. deputies were dispatched to U.S. 52 just west of West Roberts Road.
They found a 2005 Peterbuilt semi with a tanker trailer overturned off of the road’s north side. Driver Steven Leist, 41, Cincinnati, told deputies that he was travelling eastbound on U.S. 52 when he failed to negotiate a curve. He lost control of the semi, causing it to go off the road, striking a fence and utility pole before coming to rest.
Leist was flown by Stat Flight medical helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Deputies were aided by the Laurel Police Department, Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel EMS 3 and Responder 24.
