People Assisting Animals In Need is teaming up with Ohio Alley Cat Rescue (OAR) on low-cost spaying and neutering, reports PAAIN spay/neuter coordinator Sue Hahn, Greensburg.

"Right now we are just scheduled for the next three months. If our numbers are good, we will have a transport every third Wednesday for the rest of this year."

Upcoming cat spay/neuter days are June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21.

Prices are surgery (including rabies vaccine if not current), $50; FeLV/FIV test or microchip, $20; FVRCP or FeLV vaccine, $15; Revolution for fleas and ear mites or Cestaject for tapeworms, $10; Strongid for roundworms, $5.

Persons who want to sign up their cats or those with questions may contact Hahn at 812-614-1852 or dshahn4@frontier.com or PAAIN President Judy Behlmer at 812-528-7478 or jdg_behlmer@hotmail.com.

People Assisting Animals in Need has partnered with UCAN (United Coalition for Animals) for over 13 years. UCAN provides a transport service for area pets to its Cincinnati low-cost spay/neuter clinic. However, that service for dogs and cats is on hold with the loss of a veterinarian there. Hahn says, "Hopefully we can still keep it going. We plan to go back with UCAN next year, after they get another full time vet on the schedule."

Other low-cost spay/neuter options for dogs and cats are listed on the PAAIN website, www.paain.org.
