The Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series is entering its 30th year of the program and is now accepting applications for its 2019-2020 class.

Inspired by the leadership of the late Senator Richard Lugar, The Lugar Series has sought to provide a first-class leadership training experience that encourages, mentors and prepares Republican women from across Indiana to seek new levels of personal achievement and public involvement.

“There are more women in politics than ever before, but we still have a long way to go to make our mark in leadership roles,” says Lugar Series Executive Director Anne Hathaway. “This program has proven to provide a strong leadership platform to carry future Hoosier women in their careers in elected, appointed and volunteer positions.”

The program gives participants unique access to public officials and an effective and diverse statewide political network. Once accepted into the program, the women meet monthly from October to May with community leaders to talk though public policy processes and current policy issues. One of the highlights of the program is the annual four-day trip to Washington, D.C. every spring where the class has the opportunity to meet with national leaders, network with other state excellence programs, and learn more about public policy on a national level.

Lugar Series applicants should have demonstrated leadership skills in their fields of work or community service and will be evaluated on the basis of written and oral presentations. Applications are due Thursday, Aug. 1, and are available by visiting or by calling 317-536-6900.
