BHS play Anne Frank

Batesville High School seniors Ciera Belter as Anne Frank (right) and Joseph Cerniglia as Peter Van Daan finalize lines for the production of “The Diary of Anne Frank,” which is Saturday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. at the auditorium.

The Batesville High School Drama Club will present “The Diary of Anne Frank” Saturday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. Tickets at $5 will be available at the doors, which will open at 6:30 p.m.

The drama is directed by club adviser and Batesville Middle School language arts teacher Lisa Barnett while BHS English teacher Paul Satchwill heads up the set crew.

Ten students began working on the production in October. Set construction began over Christmas break. Former BHS student Carleigh Siebert brought her artistic talents to the set construction work weekend. Siebert is studying scenic design at Wright State University. John Pfister, a scenic technology student at Wright State, joined the BHS students. Both college students provided hands-on training to the younger students.

Ciera Belter will portray Anne Frank. Her parents are being played by Aidan Jennewein and Anna Gerth. Adam Moster will portray Mr. Van Dann while Mary Kate Ketcham will play Mrs. Van Daan. Peter Van Daan will be played by Joseph Cerniglia. Joining them in the Secret Annex is Mr. Dusell, who will be played by Will Story. Rounding out the cast will be Alex Roth as Mr. Kraler and Anna Schmaltz as Miep Gies.

Set crew members include Cadey Campbell, Sally Heppner, Paige Ausenbaugh, Ciera Belter, Lilly Esser, Zac Chambers, Joe Hartman, Joseph Cerniglia,, Vivian Shroder, Sophia Panzer, Emily Meyer, Eli Wilson, Jayden Peters, Camia Garcia and Kaitlyn Gonzalez.

Tech crew members are Eli Wilson, Zac Chambers, Troy Merritt and Georgeanna Doll.

“The Diary of a Young Girl” was first published in Amsterdam in 1947. Frances Goodwin and Albert Hackett adapted it for the stage, and “The Diary of Anne Frank” opened on Broadway in 1955.
