Children must be 5 on or before Aug. 1 to enter Batesville Primary School kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year.

Administrators will hold kindergarten orientation in the school cafeteria and gym Thursday, March 12, reports principal Brad Stoneking.

The parents(s)/guardian(s) and the child should plan to arrive at BPS together. Parking is in the west lot (BPS building side closest to the high school) and entrance is through the cafeteria doors (E). Families need to bring their child, the child’s original birth certificate and immunization records. If applicable, families should also bring official court custodial paperwork.

All incoming kindergarten students will be with a BPS teacher who will be administering an academic screening assessment. Families are encouraged to be prompt so that information can be given and there is enough time for each student’s assessment. While incoming students are being assessed, families will have the opportunity to review a PowerPoint presentation in the cafeteria along with a packet containing documents pertaining to BPS kindergarten.

There will be 25-minute orientation sessions between 8:30 a.m.-2:35 p.m. and 4:30-7:30 p.m. If parents have not already done so, they should go online to https://batesvilleinschools.com/bps/prospective-parents/entering-kindergarten/ to sign up for a time.

Kindergarten orientation and online registration are two separate tasks to be completed for entrance into kindergarten at BPS. Batesville schools will utilize online registration for families to complete all necessary forms and information in preparation for kindergarten. Once online registration opens, a BPS office staff member will send a general message via email providing directions on how to complete the online registration process. Families are encouraged to monitor email moving forward for more information.

If families do not have computer accessibility or internet capabilities, they should contact Batesville Primary School by Friday, March 6, to make necessary arrangements for assistance. All forms should be completed online by Wednesday, March 11.

The school currently has six spots open in the optional kindergarten Dual Language Immersion program (students are taught in Mandarin Chinese for half a day and English the other half) for the 2020-21 school year.
