When Jenny Lents’ junior high language arts students returned to St. Louis School in August, they were met with a classroom makeover.
Thanks to the generosity of the CREATE Foundation and the help of principal Chad Moeller, IT director Jessica Imel and maintenance director Wade Ryle, the teacher was able to get a flexible seating environment for her students. The classroom makeover included new floors, fresh paint, two large screen televisions and a wide variety of seating options for her kids.
Students now have the opportunity to choose seats that are more comfortable and conducive to their personal learning styles. It gives the students choices and accountability for their learning and allows Lents more flexibility in her instructional strategies. She reports, "Students in our world today must be able to work cooperatively with others and think critically. Flexible seating arrangements give kids the opportunity to develop these crucial skills in a relaxed environment."
