The Milan ‘54 Hoosiers Museum was awarded $30,000 from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation. This grant provides funding for the rehabilitation of the museum’s Nichols Barber Shop, reports Katherine Taul, Ripley County Tourism Bureau executive director.

The barber shop, which is adjacent to the museum, will be restored to a fully operational and historically accurate 1950’s barbershop decorated with memorabilia from Milan’s 1954 championship run and from the movie “Hoosiers.”

“Barber shops in the 1950’s played such an important part of community life in Milan and was accurately portrayed as such in the movie,” said Marianne Wiggers, Milan 54 Inc. president. “This will be a fantastic interactive addition to the museum. We feel truly blessed that the Rising Sun Regional Foundation has been such a strong supporter of the Milan ‘54 Hoosiers Museum.” Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year.
