Members of Prell-Bland American Legion Auxiliary Unit 271 met Wednesday, March 11, at the Eagles Club with President Marilyn Gausman presiding. Minutes of the Feb. 5 meeting were read by Secretary Sally Wilhelm and approved as read. Treasurer Wilhelm gave that report, which was filed for audit.

Wilhelm reported on the February district meeting – the poppy contest was held with entries in several categories, and the winners will be taken to the convention for their contest; Batesville received its unit ribbon for reaching its goal in membership, and 100% membership pins were given to the unit president and membership chairman; and the district voted on the national change regarding female pronouns and changing them to a more appropriate wording.

A St. Patrick's Day card and money were sent to the group's Indiana Veterans' Home resident, and Wilhelm received thank yous from the department IVH chairman. A nice profit was made at the Sons of the American Legion shoot March 3, and Gausman was thanked for her help. April 5 will be the last shoot of the season.

Patti Weberding, Girls State chairman, reported only four applicants will be sent to Hoosier Girls State this year. There were five, but one backed out. The girls and their sponsors are Jessica Rees, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; Isabel Rennekamp, Eagles Auxiliary; Anna Gerth, Lions Club; and Sarah Schuman, Batesville Kiwanis.
