Franklin County 4-H 10-year members profiled

Thirty Franklin County residents have achieved the milestone of becoming 10-year     4-H members:

Caleb Barnes

Parents: Martin and Rebecca Barnes

School: 2012 home-schooled graduate

4-H club: Highland Hy-Flyers

Favorite projects: Collections and dog obedience

Achievements: Wildlife and latch hook state fair entries and dog show reserve champion

Activities: Playing almost any sport, listening to music, playing the guitar and ukulele

Future plans: Do whatever God has planned for him

 

Ryan Bower

Parents: Randy and Nancy Bower

School: 2012 Franklin County High School graduate

4-H club: East Franklin Flyers

Favorite projects: Beef and swine

Achievements: Winning many awards for beef and swine, including grand champion and reserve grand champion starter calf for six years and five years respectively; light weight champion pig; and senior showmanship in beef

Activities: Playing basketball and baseball, fishing, hunting and working on his grandpa’s farm

Future plans: Attending Miami University

 

Kelly Burger

Parents: Albert and Shari Burger

School: 2012 Franklin County High School graduate

4-H club: East Franklin Flyers

Favorite projects: Sewing, fashion revue, scrapbooking, corn, hay and soybeans

Achievements: Three grand champions for fashion revue and grand champion for gift wrapping, hay and soybeans

Activities: Reading, sewing, playing softball

Future plans: Attending the College of Mount St. Joseph to major in biology and then attend grad school to obtain a doctorate in physical therapy

 

Joshua Burton

Parents: Mark and Gloria Burton

School: 2012 home-schooled graduate

4-H club: Whitcomb Boosters

Favorite projects: Small engines, poultry and woodworking

Achievements: Pets and small engines grand champion, poultry reserve grand champion, many other reserve champions and state fair entries

Activities: Playing softball and soccer and going fishing

Future plans: To become ASE certified to become a diesel mechanic

 

 

Haylee Cooper

Parents: Scott and Sharon Cooper

School: 2012 Union County High School graduate

4-H club: Independent study

Favorite projects: Beef cattle, photography and arts and crafts

Achievements: Having the champion Angus heifer nine years, showman and arts and crafts champion, most active beef member, Indiana Junior Angus officer three years and winning the Leising Award in beef

Activities: Playing travel softball on the Cincy Star ’94 and showing cattle year round, active FFA member and participating in various school and community activities

Future plans: Attending Wilmington College and majoring in either physical therapy or nursing

 

Zachary Frank

Parents: Todd and Sharon Frank

School: 2012 Franklin County High School graduate

4-H club: Blooming Grove Tigers

Favorite project: Home environment

Achievements: Foods grand champion and two home environment grand champions

Activities: Playing sports and hanging out with friends

Future plans: To attend Indiana State University to study criminal justice

 

Jay Haas

4-H club: East Franklin Flyers

Favorite projects: Collections and swine

Achievements: Farm Bureau Tenure Award, Leising Swine Award and state fair Special Merit photography award

Activities: Being outside, playing bass guitar, hunting, fishing and helping his NTPA Pulling Team Feiss Motorsports

Future plans: To have his won NTPA pulling vehicle and get into high performance and racing engine building and fabrication

 

Matthew Hartman

Favorite project: Woodworking

Achievements: His 2010 woodworking project when he made a wall cabinet for his bathroom

Activities: Reading and youth group sports and activities

Future plans: To attend college

 

Amber Henson

School: 2012 First Place Academy graduate

4-H club: Oak Forest Harvesters

Favorite projects: Photography, food and consumer clothing

Achievements: Reserve grand champion, champions, state fair entries and numerous blue ribbons

Activities: Photography; reading; playing piano, guitar and bass; and cooking and baking

Future plans: To attend Ivy Tech for general studies and phlebotomy and then attend Ozark Christian College, Joplin, Mo., to study early childhood education

 

Chelsea Howell

Parents: Brad and Debbie Howell

School: 2012 Franklin County High School graduate

4-H club: East Franklin Flyers

Favorite projects: Sheep, goats, scrapbooking and floriculture

Achievements: 2010 Showman of Showmen; 2011 fair queen court first runner-up; and sheep, goats and floriculture grand champion

Activities: Showing sheep and goats, playing soccer and tennis and hanging out with friends and family

Future plans: To attend Franklin College to major in public relations and play tennis

 

Amanda Kaiser

Parents: David and Cindy Kaiser

School: 2012 Franklin County High School graduate

Favorite projects: Basketry, swine and foods

Achievements: 2004 swine junior showmanship, 2007 junior fashion revue grand champion and 2011 consumer clothing and foods grand champion Activities: National Honor Society; Academic Hall of Fame; highest honor roll; playing basketball, volleyball and tennis; swimming; and outdoor activities

Future plans: Attending Indiana University and majoring in health administration

 

Kaitlyn Kerr

Parents: Gary and Rhonda Kerr

School: 2012 Franklin County High School graduate

4-H club: East Franklin Flyers

Favorite projects: Basketry, goats and sheep

Achievements: Winning the 2011 grand champion dairy wether, which was in memory of her brother, Kyle Kerr

Activities: Playing basketball and soccer and spending time with family and friends

Future plans: To attend Hanover College and major in exercise science

 

Caroline Koester

Parents: Jeff and Diana Koester

4-H club: Blooming Grove Tigers

Favorite projects: Photography, sewing and fashion revue

Achievements: Sewing and fashion revue grand champion, fashion review Indiana State Fair finalist and many division champions and state fair entries

Activities: Playing basketball, running track, taking pictures, traveling, attending Indianapolis Colts games and boating

Future plans: To attend Butler University to pursue a career in pharmacy in hopes of becoming a pharmacist and performing research and bringing new drugs to the market

 

Ann Kuntz

Favorite projects: Beef, swine and foods

Achievements: Steer, foods and forestry reserve grand champion; champion light weight barrow and shorthorn heifer; junior showmanship in beef; intermediate and senior showmanship in swine and beef; and sewing for fun grand champion

Activities: Running cross country and track, playing basketball and being a part of campus ministry and National Honor Society

Future plans: To attend Marian University to study nursing while running cross country and track

 

Lainey Losekamp

Favorite projects: Beef, swine, goats and sheep

Achievements: Foods, consumer clothing, wether and full blood boer doe grand champion; market lamb reserve grand champion; and light weight barrow champion

Activities: Sitting down to read a good book and spending time with her great family and awesome friends

Future plans: To attend UCBA and earn a degree in dental hygiene

 

Jessica Mason

Favorite projects: Floriculture and swine

Achievements: Taking the Achievement Trip to Chicago and winning reserve grand champion in electric two years in a row

Activities: FFA, youth group, gardening and raising animals

Future plans: To attend college to study landscaping and greenhouse management

 

Julie Mersch

Favorite projects: Pencil drawing, painting and starter calf

Achievements: Grand champion in art for two years and champion in basic crafts with her pottery project

Activities: Soccer, softball, art, baby-sitting her nieces and nephews and hanging out with friends and family

Future plans: Undecided

 

Sadie Miller

School: 2012 Oldenburg Academy graduate

4-H club: Highland Hoosiers

Favorite project: Public speaking

Achievements: Winning reserve grand champion in public speaking and going to the state fair with that project

Activities: Spending time with friends, going hiking and running and working out to relieve everyday stress

Future plans: To attend Ivy Tech and then transfer to Indiana University

 

Mary Rose Noble

Parents: Brian and Linda Noble

4-H club: Highland Hoosiers

Favorite projects: Swine, beef and basketry

Achievements: Junior goat showmanship, champion intermediate basket and produce of dam and grand champion oberhasli

Activities: Playing soccer and softball, fishing and spending time with family and friends

Future plans: To attend college

 

Paige Riebsomer

Favorite projects: Basketry, clay works and baking

Achievements: Many blue ribbons, reserve champion, champion and being a 10-year 4-H member

Activities: Playing volleyball, ultimate frisbee, rock climbing, skydiving, reading books, hanging out with friends, shopping, working out, walking her dog and just smiling

Future plans: To attend Ball State University to study dietetics and then work for an organic brand named Kashi

 

Caleb Robinson

Achievements: Grand champion ribbons and taking projects to the Indiana State Fair

Activities: Playing the bass in the Praise Band, reading, working at Eklunds Crazy Acres and hanging out with friends

Future plans: Attending Ball State University to study psychology with an emphasis on criminal justice

 

Shelbi Schwab

Favorite projects: Photography and showing animals at the livestock shows

Achievements: Champion extra heavy weight sheep and reserve champion photography board that got chosen for the state fair

Activities: Playing softball and hanging out with friends

Future plans: To attend the Vet Tech Institute, Indianapolis

 

Abby Shane

Favorite projects: Sewing and beef

Achievements: State fair entries, grand champions and serving as president and vice president of her 4-H club

Activities: Hanging out with friends and family, coaching softball and working

Future plans: To attend the University of Indianapolis to study nursing

Favorite projects: Poultry and meat goat

Achievements: Premier poultry showmanship four years in a row, poultry showmanship at the 2011 state fair and woodworking grand champion three years in a row

Activities: Raising and showing poultry and rabbits in open shows outside of 4-H, cross country, track and FFA

Future plans: To attend Purdue University and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in animal science

Achievements: Grand and premier grand champion awards for showing dairy

Activities: Four-wheeling, canoeing and National Honor Society

Future plans: To continue working full time at Shirk’s International

Achievements: International studies reserve grand champion and meat pen of rabbits champion

Activities: Reading, writing, riding horses and spending as much time as possible with family and friends

Future plans: To attend Miami University to study zoology

 

Kory Werner

Achievements: Many grand and reserve champion awards for his animals

Activities: Playing guitar and drums, working on cars and racing

Future plans: To attend Butler University to study criminology and sociology with an ultimate goal of working as an FBI agent
