The Batesville FFA chapter held its first meeting Monday, Aug. 27, at Batesville High School in Cassie Mumaw’s ag room. There were 47 members and one ag adviser present, according to reporter Michaela Hoff.
The chapter was brought to order by President Jacob Schwab, who led the welcoming of the chapter officers. The yearly dues are $12 and must be paid by the Oct. 28 meeting, unless members want to participate in events prior to that date.
The club’s yearly soil judging is coming to a start. It is being led up by Chad Emsweller. The team held their first meeting Aug. 29. Other members wanting to join need to see him. The district kickoff will be Sept. 16 at South Ripley High School, where the district FFA members are able to meet other chapters and learn team building activities.
Ag Day is also coming up. FFA members will go to the Ripley County Fairgrounds and talk to all the surrounding third-graders about agriculture. The yearly National FFA Convention is right around the corner. Members will be leaving for the event Oct. 31 and returning Nov. 1. It will be held in Louisville, Ky. The first day, the group will be going to see the caves, Louisville slugger factory and a rodeo. On the other day, they will be attending the convention’s workshops and sessions.
The next FFA meeting will be Monday, Sept. 23 in the ag room.
