“Music fans filled the Batesville Middle School gym May 3 to listen to some very talented bands compete for top prizes at the Batesville High School Battle of the Bands,” said organizer Taaron Meyers.
When the scores were tallied at the end of the evening, the first place prize went to Exactly What You Wanted, a Batesville-based group. In addition to their cash prize, these rockers will be invited to the Kindred Sanction show on Class X Radio, heard locally on 88.9 FM, on Monday evenings at 8 p.m. with Eddy Mullet.
Regiment 115, which won last year’s contest, took second place. This quartet is comprised of East Central High School students Chris Garlatti, Anthony Back, Evan Zacarias and Nick Woolwine. According to Meyers, “The competition for the prizes was very close and made a tough job for our judges.”
“A great addition to our show this year were the two excellent bands from Jac-Cen-Del. That high school actually offers a rock band class and some of these musicians were beginners, but you would never know by the way they jammed.” Third place went JC/DC with Blake Crain, Tyler Delay, Derek Powers, Dakotah Ebbine and Josh Roe. Finally, the band that did a great job opening the night and included a harmonic duet was Purdy Brave with five JCD students, Michaela Purdy, Caleb Schwier, Josh Roe, Blake Crain and Haley Winters.
The organizer concluded, “All of the bands displayed outstanding talent and provided a great evening of entertainment for the crowd. Thanks to all for participating in the event, the sponsors who helped make it happen and especially to all those who came out to support their favorite band.”
