Seven area schools achieve Four Star status

Indiana’s 311 Four Star Schools for the 2012-13 year were announced by Glenda Ritz, Indiana superintendent of public instruction, April 15.

Area schools achieving the honor are Batesville High School, Batesville Middle School, Batesville Intermediate School, North Dearborn Elementary School, Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School, South Ripley Junior High School and Oldenburg Academy.

In order to earn this designation, a school must be in the top 25th percentile of schools in three ISTEP-based categories. Because Batesville third-graders, the youngest students to take the ISTEP, have moved from Batesville Primary School to BIS, BPS is not eligible to be a Four Star School.

Ritz reported, “I am honored to name these schools as our Four Star Schools for this year. Winning this award required excellent work by teachers, administrators, students and parents throughout the year and on behalf of the entire Indiana Department of Education I send them my sincere congratulations.”

A complete list of the schools that received the award and a more complete methodology outlining Four Star determination can be found at www.doe.in.gov/accreditation/four-star-schools.
