Recently, the Batesville FFA chapter had two livestock evaluation teams qualify to compete in the Indiana State Livestock Contest in Sheridan, according to adviser Cassie Mumaw.
Members joined 315 other 4-H and FFA individuals in evaluating and placing 12 classes of livestock, cattle, hogs, sheep and goats. Evaluators then gave six sets of oral reasons to selected officials. As the eight-hour day came to a close, all seven individuals persevered a long but exciting day.
Batesville’s Gold Team was the 29th placed team, where Madison Schloemer was 60th, Kent Siefert earned 86th and Chance Vankirk was 110th.
Batesville Blue earned an astonishing 11th Team overall, falling short of a national contest trip by 18 points. Members were Megan Doll, 101st; Chad Emsweller, 65th; and Jacob Schwab, 44th. The team’s highlight on the day was freshman Annie Schoetmer’s outstanding finish being fifth overall in beef and the sixth highest individual overall.
“Both teams ended the year on a great note and will begin again with practice next fall, Mumaw revealed.
