East Central High School FFA members recently competed in three contests, according to reporter Jacob Tremain.
In the Area 1 Dairy Cattle Judging at the Decatur County Fairgrounds, Greensburg, two teams participated in the contest that consisted of judging several different classes of dairy cattle and presenting oral reasons for their placings. The team of Hailey Nailor, Keith Batta, Keith Rosemeyer and Edward Oehlman placed first, and the team of Dylan Martin, Zach Schneider, Kyle Scott and Josh Elliot placed fifth. Both groups also competed at the state level.
Four teams entered the Area 1 Livestock Judging at the fairgrounds. This contest consisted of seven classes of animals that the participants had to evaluate. They also had to give three oral sets of reasons. ECHS’ top team, consisting of Ryan Callahan, Zach Kolb, Morgan Zeiser and Breanne Fox, placed 10th.
Five FFA members went to the Area 1 Horse and Pony Judging at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds, Columbus. Participants had to evaluate two performance classes and two halter classes.
The team of Hailey Nailor, Brittany Shumate, Joni Schwartz and Robyn Shumate placed second overall. They advanced to the state competition. Zoe Henry competed as an individual in the contest. Robyn Shumate placed fourth, and Brittany Shumate placed fifth.
At the May 3 state competition in Hendricks County, the team of Hailey Nailor, Joni Schwartz, Robyn Shumate and Zoe Henry placed fourth.
