Thirty Franklin County residents achieve 10-year 4-H member status

BATESVILLE —

Thirty Franklin County residents have achieved the milestone of becoming 10-year 4-H members:

Franklin County Ten Year 4-H Members

Caleb Barnes, son of Martin and Rebecca Barnes, is a 2012 home school graduate and a member of the Highland Hy-Flyers 4-H Club.  His favorite projects are collections and dog obedience.  His 4-H achievements include state fair entries with his wildlife and latch hook and winning reserve champion in the dog show.  Caleb says his favorite memory was, “Coming around the first corner of the arena, my dog chooses to relieve himself.  A shovel full of crap and embarrassment.”  His favorite activities include playing almost any sport and not a day goes by that he doesn’t listen to or play music.  He plays the guitar, ukulele, and he “slapa da bass man!”  Caleb is most inspired by God for being his savior.  Chris Thile and John Mayer have also inspired Caleb in music.  In the future, Caleb intends to do whatever God has planned for him, whether it is a burger flipper or a missionary.

Ryan Bower, son of Randy and Nancy Bower, is a 2012 graduate of Franklin County High School and a member of the East Franklin Flyers 4-H Club.  Beef and swine are his favorite projects.  He has won many awards in these two projects including Grand Champion Starter Calf for 6 years, Reserve Grand Champion Starter Calf for 5 years, Light Weight Champion Pig, and Senior Showmanship in beef.   Ryan’s favorite 4-H memory was “waking up early on Tuesday mornings to beat everyone to the wash racks.”   In his free time, Ryan likes to play basketball and baseball, fish, hunt, and work on his grandpa’s farm.   His other achievements include being in the Academic Hall of Fame and being a member of the basketball team that won the All-Tourney Team Award at the 2012 Holiday Tourney.  When asked who inspires him, he answered, “My grandpa because he has taught me so much from being around him so often.”  Ryan plans to attend Miami University.
