BATESVILLE — Seven teen bands representing talent from five southeastern Indiana schools will take the Batesville Middle School old gym stage Saturday, April 28, to compete for top honors in the eighth annual Batesville High School Battle of the Bands sponsored by the BHS Music Boosters.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. The public is invited to attend from 7-11 p.m. Admission is $5.

The bands will play music from a variety of genres, including punk, metal, alternative and classic rock, reports organizer Ann Edwards.

Each band will have 20 minutes to play for the audience and a panel of judges who will score each group based on musicianship, stage presence, originality, organization and crowd reaction.

The top three groups will be awarded cash prizes thanks to the generous support of many area businesses and individuals. The first place band also will get the opportunity to perform a live acoustic set on Cincinnati station Class X Radio 88.9, which features local musicians.

The BHS Music Department fundraiser “is a great opportunity for these young musicians to get their band out of the garage and onto the stage performing for their friends and classmates.”

Bands are listed in the tentative order in which they will be performing. Uncommon Wealth: Ricky Baker, Gabe Johnson, Levi Allen and Adrian Apagie, representing Lawrenceburg, East Central and South Dearborn  high schools; Regiment 115: Nick Woolwine, Chris Garlatti, Anthony Back and Evan Zacarias, ECHS; last year’s winning band, A-Train: Craig Fullenkamp, BHS, and Austin Lee and Sean Kaiser, ECHS; No Limit: Andrew Turpen, Evan Prunty, Evan Hawkins, Brian Farrell and Stanley Fryman, BHS.

Also, Minutemen: Trent Eliason, Shawn Kiernan, Ryan Clark and Nick Hudson, LHS; Bluey  Moon and the Starry Sky: Justin Edwards, Zach Schornick, Seth Parker, Jake Roper and Tori Roper, BHS; and Gaige Wintz, Jacob Schebler and Dakota Laker, BHS, and John Ronnebaum, Oldenburg Academy.

The winning band will be announced at about 10:15 p.m. and will take the stage for an encore immediately following.
