The third annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, hosted by the Jac-Cen-Del School Corp. and Ripley County Community Foundation’s Economic Opportunities through Education by 2015, will be held Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School, Osgood, reports Anita Narwold, RCCF administrative assistant.
The annual competition challenges teams of students from middle school to college age to compete in building the most elaborate and hilarious Rube Goldberg Machine, an overly complex contraption designed with humor and a narrative to accomplish a simple task. This year’s task is “zip a zipper.”
Nine teams are registered, and they will be judged on a range of criteria from complexity, machine flow, creativity, humor and storytelling, along with the successful achievement of the task at hand. The local school corporations will supply the judges.
