---- — This summer, Margaret Mary Health partnered with the East Indiana Area Health Education Center to allow 11 local students the opportunity to participate in the Medical Scholars Academy, a summer program that allows rising high school juniors and seniors, as well as rising college freshmen, the chance to explore a variety of medical careers, said MMH communications specialist Becky Walter.
This year’s group included students from Ripley, Franklin and Decatur counties. During the four-week program, students had the opportunity to tour the Indiana University School of Medicine, receive career counseling, shadow local clinicians and spend time in various hospital departments.
“Something I liked best about the program is having the chance to explore several different medical fields,” said Chloe Rennekamp, Peppertown. “I learned a lot from this opportunity, and it opened my eyes to some new careers.”
