Students explore medical fields

This summer, Margaret Mary Health partnered with the East Indiana Area Health Education Center to allow 11 local students the opportunity to participate in the Medical Scholars Academy, a summer program that allows rising high school juniors and seniors, as well as rising college freshmen, the chance to explore a variety of medical careers, said MMH communications specialist Becky Walter.

This year’s group included students from Ripley, Franklin and Decatur counties. During the four-week program, students had the opportunity to tour the Indiana University School of Medicine, receive career counseling, shadow local clinicians and spend time in various hospital departments.

“Something I liked best about the program is having the chance to explore several different medical fields,” said Chloe Rennekamp, Peppertown. “I learned a lot from this opportunity, and it opened my eyes to some new careers.”
