Oldenburg Academy principal Joe Gressock has resigned effective June 30 after two years on the job, he reported April 25.
Officials at Benedictine High School, Cleveland, where he used to teach and coach, called him over spring break and asked if Gressock would consider coming back as principal.
“It’s not something I looked for. I didn’t plan on leaving OA. I feel this is the opportunity of a lifetime – to go back to your alma mater and take over the leadership role of the school.” He has been associated with the religious school run by Benedictines since 1952.
Gressock has enjoyed him time here. “I think Oldenburg Academy is an outstanding college preparatory school made up of devoted teachers and students who rise to the occasion. It’s a very sound academic school.”
Of Gressock’s announcement, OA President Sister Therese Gillman said, “I appreciate the skills and leadership that he brought to our school and wish him well.”
She added, “We’re doing an aggressive search” for his replacement. It will continue “until we find the right person, a good fit to lead OA into the future.”
Gillman hopes a new principal is appointed before the end of this school year. If that doesn’t happen, a transition plan will be put in place, according to her.
