On Jan. 27 three members of the Conn family in Laurel were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, a Class A felony. Bill Conn, 69, and his son Lloyd Conn, 35, were read the new charge at the Franklin County Security Center, Brookville, where they already were incarcerated, said Sgt. John Bowling, Indiana State Police Connersville District public information officer.

Bill Conn’s daughter, Barbara Gambill, 43, was arrested at a relative’s Franklin County home without incident.

“The new charge stems from the ongoing investigation into the Conn family and involves a plot to kill a potential witness in the family’s upcoming trials,” Bowling reported. Indiana State Excise Police and ISP investigators advised the trio had gone as far as doing surveillance of the victim’s home, and had test fired the weapon they were going to use. The investigation remains ongoing.

A person who commits a Class A felony in Indiana can face up to 30 years in prison, and up to a $10,000 fine.

The men were in jail after being arrested Jan. 14. Bill Conn was charged with arson, four counts of welfare fraud and three counts of receiving stolen property. Lloyd Conn was arrested for arson and Barbara Gambill for welfare fraud.

On March 30, 2009, troopers found and dismantled a meth lab at Lloyd Conn’s residence. Thousands of dollars worth of stolen property was confiscated during that investigation, according to the officer.
