Oldenburg Academy loses to Shawe in first round of sectional

BATESVILLE — The Jac-Cen-Del Eagles opened up the South Decatur boys basketball sectional Tuesday night with a 65-54 win over the Hauser Jets.

The second game pitted the Oldenburg Academy Twisters against Shawe Memorial.

The Hilltoppers, who had defeated OA earlier in the season, did it again. This time by a score of 38-34.

Offense was at a premium through the first three quarters and neither team could gain an advantage.

Tied at 6-6 through the first eight minutes, each team managed 10 points in the second quarter to enter halftime knotted at 16-16.

The third quarter produced even less offense. A field goal by Peter Lamping and a pair of free throws by Matt Hurm kept the Twisters even with the Hilltoppers.

Coach Gary Moorman’s crew started hitting from outside the 3-point arc, but still did not have enough to keep pace in the fourth quarter. Corey Schuman hit a pair of 3-pointers, while Hurm and Lamping each had one. Josh Stenger added a two point basket to give OA 14 for the quarter and a total of 34 for the game.

Hurm finished with a team-high 10 points followed by Schuman with nine. Lamping closed out his career with a seven point effort.

Oldenburg finished the season with a mark of 4-17 with wins coming against International (2), Rising Sun and Henryville.

The Hilltoppers advance to play South Decatur in the second game on Friday. The Eagles (6-15) will play Rising Sun (2-18) in the opener at 6 p.m.
