The third win of the season came easier than expected Friday night for the Batesville Bulldogs.
The host Bulldogs – playing for the first time at home – nearly set a new school record in a 62-24 win over the Lawrenceburg Tigers. The school mark for fewest points allowed is 23 points.
Batesville jumped out to a fast start and did not give up a field goal until the 1:45 mark in the first quarter. By then, the Batesville lead was 14-2.
Junior Nathan Longstreth and sophomore Bryan Hoeing sparked the Bulldogs early. Hoeing opened the game with a 3-pointer and added a field goal shortly after, while Longstreth scored six of his high game-high 14 points over the first four minutes.
A 12-point first quarter lead grew to 24-4 and later 37-8 when the halftime horn sounded.
The defensive effort did not drop off much in the second half.
Batesville gave up only six points in the third quarter as the lead extended to 39 points.
The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Tigers 33-22 for the game and finished with 13 steals. Mike Hoeing led the team with seven rebounds followed by Blake Walsman with six. Quinn Grimsley and Longstreth each had five boards. Bryan Hoeing had a team-high five steals.
Offensively, the Bulldogs had 10 different players score in the game, but only one made it to double figures. Longstreth’s 14 led the way. Wesley McKinney and Bryan Hoeing each added nine points.
Mike Hoeing dished out five assists and Grimsley had four.
The Batesville junior varsity suffered a 48-32 loss to the visiting Tigers.
