Lady Bulldogs beat JCD 39-32

— The Batesville Lady Bulldogs hosted Jac-Cen-Del Friday night and sent the Lady Eagles home with a 39-32 loss.

It was a game of swings early with both teams having moments they looked good and moments when it was not as good.

Batesville had the momentum early and  led 11-4 by the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Eagles bounced bask to scored the first nine points of the second quarter to take a 13-11 lead on a field goal by Sydney Keene at the 6:04 mark.

Batesville avoided a large deficit at halftime by scoring the final five points of the second quarter. A pair of free throws by Brooke Rohlfing and a field goal by Madi Oesterling made it 20-17 at the break.

Neither team could generate much offense in the third quarter and only 10 points were scored between the two teams.

It was a much more active fourth quarter.

A quicker tempo led to a 14-0 run by the Lady Bulldogs. A five point deficit was turned into a 35-26 advantage.

A field goal by Brianna Volz at the 1:15 mark was JCD’s first points of the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer from the corner by Jordan Day cut the lead to 35-31, but it would be as close as they would get.

Rohlfing led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points followed by AJ Connelly with nine and Bailey Baumer with eight.

Keene scored a team-best seven points for JCD, while Volz added six.

“The effort was good and I thought we continued to play well defensively,” BHS head coach Matt Maple commented. “The press helped us, but we did not have many opportunities” because of the lack of scored baskets.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-2 on the season, while JCD falls to 2-3.

The Batesville junior varsity fell to 2-3 on the season with a tough 29-28 loss to the Lady Eagles.

Batesville outscored JCD 8-2 in the fourth quarter and trimmed a 27-20 third quarter deficit to one by the final horn.

Kelsey Forbect led all Batesville scorers with nine points followed by Samantha Heidlage with seven. Abby Wagner scored 10 for the Lady Eagles.
