Billingsley wins race as OA places fourth

---- — The Oldenburg Academy girls cross country team broke in to the state’s top 25 this past week. The Lady Twisters appeared at No. 24 in the IATCCC girls poll for Sept. 16.

Oldenburg proved why with a fourth place finish at the Indiana Catholic State Championships hosted by Guerin Catholic.

Despite the challenging course, all the OA runners turned in personal best times.

The end result was a team score of 107, which was just five points from second place Guerin. Bishop Dwenger was first with 76 points, while Brebeuf finished third with 105.

Sarah Billingsley continued to position herself among the state’s best. The OA senior won the race in a course record time of 18:29, which was 30 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Meredith Maier (19:12) was fourth overall followed by Ashley Sedler (14th), Rachel Billingsley (16th) and Madelyn Maier (73rd).

OA first at North

The Lady Twisters were easy winners at North Decatur. Oldenburg finished with a team score of 18 points - 31 ahead of North.

Sarah Billingsley was the race winner followed by Meredith Maier. Rachel Billingsley placed fourth, while Sedler, Haliegh Reed, Madeline Maier and Kile took the next four places.

Other finishers for OA included Kirsten Stenger (11th), Hannah Sparks (13th) and Unkrich (15th).
