The Oldenburg Academy boys soccer team stretched its winning streak to five games with a 5-1 victory over Franklin County.
The Twisters have outscored their opponents 22-3 over the five wins.
Still, Oldenburg Academy coach Ken Getz believes more can be achieved with this group.
“We still need to learn to play for the entire 80 minutes,” Getz commented. “Two of the three goals were scored late in the game when we had a lead.
“We need to finish games the way we start games,” he added.
Hayden Johnson capitalized on good midfield play by Taylor Reed and Ted Geis, according to the coach. Johnson scored a pair of goals to put the Twisters in front. The OA junior scored at the 20:52 mark on a rebound from his own shot and again at the 14:31 mark on a drive through the middle.
Daniel Mullen added a third goal in the first period on an assist by Johnson.
Mullen scored again in period two at the 36:44 mark assisted by Taylor Reed on a nice through ball into the 18. Jordan Kramer tallied the final goal at the 10:10 mark assisted by Johnson.
Franklin County scored its only goal at the 2:55.
The Twisters recorded their fifth win of the season one day earlier with a 3-1 victory at home against Rising Sun.
Oldenburg scored two times in the first half before playing even in the second.
Johnson and Mullen each found the back of the net in the first period. Johnson came on an assist by Mullen, while Josh Kinker got the assist on the second.
Reed picked up the team’s third goal in the second half.
Jeremy Kelnhofer had six saves in goal against the Shiners.
The varsity Twisters are now 6-2-1 on the season.
