It was an impressive start to the season for both the boys and girls cross country teams at Oldenburg Academy.
The Lady Twisters placed first in a nine-team field at the Richmond Invitational on Saturday.
Oldenburg finished with a team score of 53 points, which was 23 points better than Hagerstown. Southport was third followed by Marion.
Sarah Billingsley picked up where she left off last season – at the top of the standings. Billingsley crossed the finish line first overall with a winning time of 18:56.
Teammate Meredith Maier was second overall followed by Rachel Billingsley in seventh and Ashley Sedler in ninth. Madeline Maier rounded out the scoring for OA with a 34th place finish.
Other runners competing for Oldenburg included Jackie Unkrich, Kristen Stenger and Hannah Sparks.
The OA boys will take some strides up the ladder this season with the addition of some strong runners.
The Twisters were third with a team score of 105.
They finished behind Greenfield-Central (43) and Hagerstown (80). Marion was fourth with 146 points.
Curt Eckstein raced out front the entire race and crossed the finish line second overall with a school record time of 16:57.
Justin Fledderman was second on the team and seventh overall with a time of 17:32. Isaiah Frey (25th), Jared Hasselbring (33rd) and Luke Wukujsick (38th) rounded out the score for the Twisters.
Other runners for the boys team included Gabe Frey, Chris Nurrenberg and Brian Ullrich.
