Lady Bulldogs open with two wins

It may not have been as smooth as hoped, but a victory to open the season is always good.

The Batesville High School varsity volleyball team traveled to Connersville to begin a much anticipated season after an off season of hard work.

The Lady Bulldogs won the first set 25-17, but lost the second 25-21. They bounced back to win the next two 25-22 and 25-19.

The Lady Bulldogs should not be lacking in power at the net and it proved to be the case against Connersville.

Bailey Baumer and Rylee Goldsmith dominated at the net and a total of five players recorded at least four kills. Baumer was impressive with a team high 27 followed by Goldsmith 14.

Setter Katie Thomas delivered a total of 46 assists.

Defensively, Chelsey Paul led the was with 28 digs followed closely by Baumer with 22.

The Batesville junior varsity team needed only two games to pick up its first victory. The Lady Bulldogs were 25-23 and 25-22 winners over the Lady Spartans.

Kylie Paul, Kim Tidman and Avni Patel each had four kills to lead the attack. Sophia Fledderman recored a team high nine assists.

Josie Heidlage led the team with 13 service attempts and a total of nine points. Tidman was second on the team with 10 attempts and six points.

Lady Bulldogs split with Shelbyville

After losing the first set 25-23, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back to win the next three and defeat Shelbyville on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs won the second in convincing fashion 25-12 followed by wins of 25-22 and 25-13.

Goldsmith had a team high 21 kills followed by Baumer with 15. Thomas finished with a total of 42 assists.

The BHS junior varsity suffered a tough 25-14, 15-25 and 13-25 loss to the Golden Bears.

Tidman recorded five kills in 13 attacking opportunities, while Heidlage tallied four. Lexi Hatcher was the team’s top server with seven points.
