Lady Bulldogs open with convincing victory

BHS junior varsity plays to 0-0 tie

The Batesville High School girls’ varsity soccer team traveled to Liberty to open the 2013 season.

The Lady Bulldogs returned home with a convincing 14-0 victory over the Union County Lady Patriots.

“It was a great game all around for us and our defense remained solid throughout the game,BHS coach Kyle Laker commented. “It was nice to see all of our hard work all summer and for the beginning of the season to be reflected on the field.”

The scoring started early and continued throughout the match with nine players scoring for Batesville. Batesville was led in scoring by sophomore Mary Elizabeth Elkins with three goals, including a header off a corner kick.

Also scoring for Batesville, Audrey Hall (2), Megan Doll (2), Brooke Rohlfing (2), Shelby Rupp, Mary Gutzwiller, Karsen Worthington, Sylvia Phillips, and Kelsey Gausman.. Batesville also had eight assists in the game with Phillips leading the way with three.

The Lady Bulldogs outshot the Lady Patriots 42-0.

Junior varsity battles to a scoreless tie

The Batesville junior varsity and South Ripley Lady Raiders battled to 0-0 tie to open the season Tuesday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs controlled the tempo offensively with great ball control by Anna Kick. Morgan Puente, Emily Rose and Sophie Meadows led the Lady Bulldogs in shots taken on goal. The team totaled 34 shots.

Great defensive play by our goalies Alex Lipinski and Julia Hunter as well as Kristen Covert and Abby Roell holding up to an aggressive Raider offense, according to the coach.
