---- — The 17th ranked team in Class A did not have any problems advancing out of the first round.
The Oldenburg Academy boys soccer team opened sectional play with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Greensburg Pirates at Waldron High School.
The Twisters came out strong and controlled the game from the start, according to coach Ken Getz.
“We thought that we could control the midfield … if we could, we would have a good night,” Getz commented. “The last time we played Greensburg they ran an off-sides trap on defense … this time they dropped back and played a deep sweeper like we do.
“Once we figured out what we needed to do we were alright,” he added.
Hayden Johnson had a big night offensively for the Twisters. He scored all four goals with three on head shots as the midfielders did a good job of setting him up. The first goal was assisted by Taylor Reed on a cross into the 18. The second came on a corner kick by Daniel Mullen, while the third was similar to the first, but this time assisted by Ted Geis.
Oldenburg scored one time on the second period. Weberding assisted on the final Johnson score.
The Twisters had 34 shots with 20 on goal, while the Pirates managed just one shot in the first half and six in the second with a total of three on goal.
There were several key saves on defense to clear the ball by Josh Kinker, Matty Hurm, Luke Weisenbach and Mark Hoog , according to Getz. “The defense came up big tonight and kept Greensburg from sending shots at Jeremy (Kelnhofer).”
OA will play Hauser in the sectional finals at Waldron at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
