A good season came to a close for the Batesville High School girls soccer team.
The Lady Bulldogs were defeated 4-0 by East Central in the first round of the Class 2A sectional held at Batesville Tuesday evening.
"We played the best half of soccer all season and held EC in check most of the game," BHS coach Kyle Laker commented.
After a scoreless first half, the game was still just a 1-0 margin midway through the second half.
“With 20 minutes to play, we pushed our numbers forward which weakened our defense,” Laker commented. “This is when the game got out of control, but we had to push numbers forward to try to mount a comeback.
“Although we were not able to put one away last night, we walked off the field with our heads held high and we have nothing to be ashamed about. We have a lot to build on for next season and look forward to coming back even stronger,” he added.
Senior Melody Lutz led her team with three goals, while Daria Volker added one. Senior Hannah Patton had an assist on one of the three Lutz scores.
The Lady Trojans improved to 14-1-2 on the season, while Batesville finished 10-5-2.
