Twisters tally 19 points in loss to Southside Home School

Coming off a 57-0 loss to Indianapolis Shortridge in the season opener, the Oldenburg Academy football team was looking to improve in game two.

The Twisters were better, but will fell 42-19 to Southside Home School.

“Extremely proud of our kids,” OA head coach Wes Gillman commented. “I can see where things are starting to click as a team.

“We are improving each week and that's really all we can ask of these kids right now,” he added.

The Twisters scored their first points of the season on the opening drive of the game.

Oldenburg Academy drove the length of the field and scored on a 10 yard pass from quarterback Matt Moorman to tight end Jason Kline. Brian Weberding added the extra point to give OA their first lead of the season at 7-0.

Southside scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to go from a one point deficit to a 28-7 halftime lead.

The Twisters “came out in the second half with a sense of urgency and intensity,” Gillman commented. “Defensively, something clicked and we started making plays.”

Decker Horninger, John Pelzel and Luke Roberts were credited for their improved play on the defensive side of the ball.

Moorman scored on a 12 yard run in the third quarter to cut into the Southside lead.

The final OA score came in the fourth quarter. Moorman connected with wide receiver Bryce Ahaus. Ahaus then pitched it to Roberts who completed the 52 yard scoring play.

The Twisters (0-2) will next be in action on Friday when they travel to Indianapolis Arlington (1-1).
