MARTINSVILLE — The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity basketball team suffered a 66-46 loss to Clay City in the first round of the Class A regional at Martinsville.
The Twisters trailed 20-11 at the end of the first quarter and later 35-21 at halftime.
Oldenburg was able to close the gap to six points on a three-point play by Matt Moorman with 2:18 to play in the third quarter.
The Eels countered with the final five points of the third quarter and the first eight of the fourth period to regain a 55-36 lead. A pair of Kurt Sarrighaus free throws at the 4:57 mark put an end to the Clay City 13-0 run.
The Sarringhaus free throws made it 55-38.
The Clay City lead later grew to as many as 22 points.
