Bulldogs net win over Greenfield-Central

Take Whiteland Invitational title with two wins

— The Batesville High School tennis team defeated Greenfield Central by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs were led by No. 1 singles player Kassidy Kase with an easy two-set win over Dakota Smith 6-0 and 6-0.

Mitchell Taylor needed a second set tie-breaker, but won at No. 2. Taylor beat Chris Kersey 6-4 and 7-6 (7-4).

The No. 1 doubles team of Nick Kirschner and Henry Luchow went three sets to pick up a third win for the Bulldogs. Luchow and Kirschner defeated Max Holtzclaw and Jake Kauth 7-5, 1-6 and 6-2.

Chris Hoseus suffered a 6-4 and 7-5 loss to Greenfield’s Brandon Hull at No. 3 singles. Dustin Nobbe and Jacob Paul fell in two sets at No. 2 doubles.

In junior varsity play, the Bulldogs were 7-0 winners.

Blake Walsman, Connor Rose and Matt Taylor each won singles matches.

Walsman/Connor Rose, Ben Schwettman/Spencer Rose, Harsh Patel/Justin Garcia and Brandon Laker/William Dong notched wins in doubles.

BHS wins at Whiteland

The Bulldogs suffered a loss to Jennings County, but were still able to capture the team title at the Whiteland Invitational.

Coach Michael McKinney’s crew bounced back with 3-2 wins over Shelbyville and Whiteland.

Kase was a perfect 3-0 on the day at No. 1 singles with all three victories coming in two sets.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kirschner and Luchow turned in a solid effort and finished 3-0. They needed a third set super tie-breaker to win against Whiteland, but the other two matches were won in straight sets.

Taylor was a two-time winner for the Bulldogs. He won at No. 2 singles match against Shelbyville and then teamed up with Paul to beat Whiteland.
