BHS softball team beats South Dearborn 6-3

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Lady Bulldogs tallied a needed Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference victory at home against the South Dearborn Lady Knights.

Batesville rallied from an early one-run deficit to win by a score of 6-3.

Hannah Putnam and Morgan Dreyer combined for five hits to lead BHS at the plate. Dreyer had three hits and drive in one run. Putnam had two extra base hits and drove in three runs. Putnam doubled in the second and third innings.

After tieing the game at 1-1 in the second inning, the Lady Bulldogs put four runs on the scoreboard in the third.

The game was never really in doubt after the third, as the Lady Bulldogs scored four on a two-run double by Putnam, an error, and an RBI single by Dreyer.

Coach Mike Ploeger and the Lady Bulldogs then relied on defense and the pitching of Meg Liter  to preserve the victory. Liter allowed three earned runs, four hits and one walk while striking out four over seven innings of work.

The Batesville junior varsity suffered a 6-2 loss to the Lady Knights.

The Lady Bulldog led 2-0 through the first three innings, but could not hold on over the final four.

South Dearborn took the lead in the top of the seventh inning with four runs.

Madison Meehan reached base two times. She also drove in one to lead Batesville offensively. She doubled in the second inning.

Scoring runs for the Lady Bulldogs were Madeline Cook and Hannah Wintz.
