Bulldogs get 51-43 win at New Castle

The weather cooperated and the Batesville Bulldogs were able to get back on the hardwood Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs traveled to New Castle to play the Trojans in their historic fieldhouse.

Coach Aaron Garrett's crew bounced back from a tough loss to top-ranked Greensburg and defeated the Trojans 51-43.

It was not the best of starts for the Bulldogs, but they managed to make up for it in the second half.

New Castle's patient offense and good shooting helped guide them to 22-19 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs began to force a few turnovers and shoot the ball better themselves in the second half. The improved effort on both ends of the floor was reflected on the scoreboard.

Blake Walsman and Bryan Hoeing were the only two Bulldogs to score in the third quarter, but it was enough. Hoeing tallied eight points and Walsman had six to give BHS a 33-32 lead.

The improved defensive effort carried over to the fourth quarter. The Trojans managed only 11 points over the final eight minutes.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs got a couple big baskets each by Kassidy Kase and Nathan Longstreth to go along with nine more from Hoeing.

New Castle led 41-38 midway in the fourth quarter before the Bulldogs made their run. Batesville outscored the Trojans 13-2 over the final four minutes, including a 7-for-8 effort from the free throw line.

Despite being held scoreless in the first quarter, Hoeing went on to lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points. Walsman was second on the team with 15.

Abe Haler led the Trojans offensively with 16 points, while EJ Sorrell added 12.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the season, while the loss is the first of the season for New Castle.
