The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity basketball team celebrated homecoming with an 82-53 victory over Southwestern (Hanover) on Friday night.
Offense came easy for the Twisters from the start. Oldenburg scored 25 points in the first quarter against the winless Rebels.
The offensive surge led to a nine point lead at the first break.
The Rebels did not let the Twisters get too far in front with a better effort in the second period. Oldenburg still outscored the Rebels, but by only two points to take a 39-28 advantage into halftime.
Coach Gary Moorman’s crew regained their momentum at the offensive end in the second half. This time the Rebels did not have much of an answer.
Oldenburg tallied 22 points in the third quarter to help stretch the margin to 19 points. They outscored the Rebels 21-11 over the final eight minutes to put the game well out of reach.
Four different OA players scored in double figures. Drew Kloepfer led the way with 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Ted Geis was second on the team with 14 points, while Matt Moorman and Jaeger Rose added 11 and 10, respectively.
