BHS grads appear in Div. III tournament

BATESVILLE — A pair of Batesville High School graduates played key roles on the Anderson University softball team.

Devin Moorman was a pitcher for the Ravens and Amy Wuestefeld played shortstop.

The Anderson University softball team’s season came to an end at the NCAA Div. III National Championships as they fell to No. 1 ranked Salisbury 2-0 on Saturday at Gelein Field in Eau Claire, Wisc.

Moorman took the loss in her final game as a Raven, allowing five hits and two runs in five innings while striking out three.

AU advanced to the World Series for the first time in school history by winning the Angola Regional in their sixth try, including three consecutive appearances. They defeated No. 2 ranked Trine twice, but couldn’t knock off the top team in the nation last Saturday.

Wuestefeld was the conference MVP this year. She led the conference in batting with a .467 average in league play. For the season, Wuestefeld led the team hi batting average (.468), hits, and total bases. She was second on the team with 33 runs scored.

Moorman, who was the conference MVP pitcher in 2012,  finished the season with a record of 8-7 with an earned run average of 3.94.

Anderson finished the season 31-18 overall and won its third consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship.
